Mathematics High School II, Geometry

In this course, geometry is addressed from a transformational perspective, with the definitions and features of translations, rotations, reflections, and dilations becoming important tools for reasoning and proof. Congruence and similarity are defined with transformations and students explore symmetry as a way of classifying quadrilaterals. The study of similarity leads to an understanding of right triangle trigonometry and extends to finding angles and sides for general triangles. The link between probability and data is explored through conditional probability and counting methods, including their use in making and evaluating decisions. The Mathematical Practice Standards applied throughout each course, together with the content standards, create mathematical learning experiences based upon reasoning and sense-making, building perseverance, problem-solving skills, and mathematical discourse.
