Arts Education Plan 2.0: Cultivating Creativity

The Arts Education Plan 2.0: Cultivating Creativity represents a bold vision for the future of arts education in Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Building on the successes of the 2012 Arts Education Plan, this updated strategy reaffirms our commitment to providing equitable access to high-quality arts education for every student, from Pre-K through 12th grade.

At the heart of this plan is the belief that arts education is not just an enrichment but a core component of a well-rounded education. The Arts Education Plan 2.0: Cultivating Creativity seeks to foster creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration among students, empowering them to express themselves and engage with the world in meaningful ways.

Our Vision For Arts Education

Our vision is to cultivate a district where every student experiences a robust arts education that enriches their academic journey and prepares them for success in a diverse and dynamic world. By integrating the arts across the curriculum and ensuring that every student has access to high-quality instruction in music, visual arts, dance, and theatre, we aim to inspire creativity and innovation in the next generation of leaders.

Supporting CPS’ Vision for the District

The Arts Education Plan 2.0 is closely aligned with CPS’s broader goals of promoting equity, excellence, and engagement. By prioritizing arts education, we are advancing equity by ensuring all students, regardless of their background or neighborhood, have the opportunity to experience the transformative power of the arts. The plan also supports CPS’s commitment to excellence by providing rigorous arts programming that meets the highest educational standards. Finally, the plan fosters engagement by creating vibrant, culturally responsive learning environments that reflect the diverse communities we serve.

It increases academic achievement and graduation rates, opens doors to new career opportunities and fosters important skills like critical thinking and emotional resilience, preparing students to succeed and thrive in the world beyond CPS.

Student-Centric Approach

This plan will focus on the student experience, leveraging their voices and perspectives to advance our arts initiative to build a better life for them, their families and our community, both now and in the future.
