Spotlighting Two Remarkable Members of the McCutcheon Elementary School Class of 2025
03 June 2025
Hawa and Samantha are known for their resilience and academic excellence.

The school community at McCutcheon Elementary is preparing to celebrate their soon-to-be graduates, including Hawa and Samantha, two remarkable members of the Class of 2025! Both scholars are known for their resilience and ability to overcome personal challenges while excelling academically.
Hawa has taken on a leadership role from a very young age, helping her family as a primary translator and advocating for her peers and community members as an LSC student representative and a champion for immigrants, the environment, and the LGBTQ+ community. And Samantha, who has faced language barriers, dedicated herself to working tirelessly to meet every academic challenge head-on while maintaining a positive spirit and showcasing her creativity through her artwork.
We are excited to see what the future holds for both students, as Hawa plans to attend Senn High School and Samantha will attend Lake View High School this fall. Learn more about them below!
What has your experience at McCutcheon been like?
Hawa: It’s a really fun school! I’ve been a part of the school’s band, which was awesome and fun because we were able to play our own instruments.
Samantha: I’ve always enjoyed my studies here because I’ve never encountered any issues, and since our school community is small, it feels really close and connected. Some of my favorite memories here include fun moments in recess and playing sports.
What are your interests both inside and outside the classroom?
Hawa: In the classroom, I enjoy learning about science and math. Outside the classroom, I like playing my instrument and practicing for band.
Samantha: Inside the classroom, I try my best to pay attention to everything so that the concepts are easier for me to understand when I do my homework. Outside of the classroom, I really enjoy playing volleyball.
What advice would you give to future 8th-grade students?
Hawa: Use your time wisely, because before you know it, you’re going to be graduating and moving on to a different school.
Samatha: Be sure to enjoy your time in 8th grade.
What are your messages to the staff and your fellow students at McCutcheon?
Hawa: Stay great and stay positive!
Samantha: If you want or are passionate about something, fight for it!
