Celebrating an Exceptional High School Senior at Prosser Career Academy
10 January 2025
Daniel’s time at Prosser has been extremely impressive and rewarding.
College acceptances are always exciting, but it was an especially exciting time for Daniel, a senior at Prosser Career Academy. He learned of his acceptance to the University of Chicago through a surprise visit to his school. His family, teachers, friends, and administrators joined to celebrate his successes.
Daniel’s time at Prosser has been extremely impressive and rewarding. He wrote his college application essay about his passion for soccer, sharing how the skills he has developed through this sport have helped him academically and in other areas of his life. He will also be a first-generation college student.
We caught up with Daniel to learn more about his high school experience and how it has prepared him well for his next steps. Learn more about him below.
What have been some of your favorite memories at Prosser?
My favorite part of my experience has been being able to participate in the IB program here. I’ve been able to challenge myself with harder courses and also fit other electives in my schedule that cater to my interests. These classes are also setting me up to succeed in college in the future.
What was your reaction to learning about your acceptance to the University of Chicago?
It was very emotional because it was a surprise. I cried since I was so happy in the moment seeing all of my family members, friends, and loved ones. It was amazing to be accepted to a university, especially the University of Chicago, which is where I really wanted to go.
What are some of your goals for the rest of your senior year?
I want to maintain my good grades and keep doing well in my classes, because I know that will set me up well for my future. I’m also going to be preparing for my IB exams. And, thinking more long term, I want to start figuring out my career path.
Where do you see yourself in 15 to 20 years?
I hope that I am still learning because I believe learning is something you should do your entire life. I am considering getting my doctorate. Business is really interesting to me, so I plan to pursue economics in college. Outside of school, I want to travel and also spend a lot of time with my family.
What advice would you give the Prosser students who are following in your footsteps?
Find a good balance of everything you do—extracurriculars, classes, studying, and preparing for tests like the SAT. I also 100 percent recommend the IB program. I think it’s a great program that helps set you up for the future.
If you could sum up your time at Prosser in one word, what would it be and why?
Unpredictable. I expected it to be a completely different environment than what it was. I also changed my pathway to the IB diploma program partway through, which was great because it connected more closely to what I realized I really wanted to do.
