Celebrating Women’s History Month through the HER STEM Mini-Series
22 March 2022
Female CPS students from across the District have had the opportunity to learn from women in various STEM fields.
Happy Women’s History Month! This month, female CPS students from across the District have had the opportunity to learn from women in various STEM fields through the HER STEM Mini-Series, a weekly virtual program developed by the CPS Department of Academic Competitions.
Each week, students hear from a panel of experts representing a specific STEM field. First, they learned about entrepreneurship from Ms. Jonice Nelson of Shake them Cakes and Ms. Jacqui Crittle, the “Career Doctor.” Next, they learned about engineering from Ms. Dawn Milhouse, the co-founder of Milhouse Charities and from Ms. Kelly Fair, the founder of Polished Pebbles. They also had the opportunity to hear from Ms. Kina Peppers, an obstetrician-gynecologist.
This past week, they learned about healthcare from three women of color: Ms. Jasmin S. Searcy-Pate, a clinical health psychologist; Ms. Britni Robinson, a dentist; and Ms. Coretta Cosby Patterson, a veterinarian. Throughout the event, students were encouraged to ask questions to the presenters to help them discover potential future careers that reflect their interests in STEM. Check out highlights from the event below!
