EXEMPLARY

Specialty Program Certification Designation - Emerging

Proficiency Based Learning fosters the development of agency, collaboration, adaptability, and leadership by creating learning environments that empower students to co-design their learning path and pace based on their demonstration of proficiency. In proficiency based learning environments, students pace through material based on their demonstration of proficiency on the content, regardless of seat time, meaning they have opportunities to both progress ahead of the pace of the course while earning credit, and also are allotted additional time to demonstrate proficiency when needed. <br /> Emerging schools are ones in which evidence shows emerging implementation of proficiency based learning practices as well as transparent and equitable assessment and grading practices across the school community. They have begun to establish foundational site conditions needed to sustain program implementation over time.
