CHICAGO - Chicago Public Schools today announced that the district will be hosting Back-to-School Bashes across the city next month for students, families and community members to come together to celebrate and prepare for a productive start to the school year. Starting next week, 13 community celebrations will be hosted for school networks in the district – allowing all CPS students to receive school supplies, meet new classmates and reconnect with their school community for the year ahead.

“Back-to-School Bashes are an opportunity for families to reengage with their schools and ensure their children have the helpful resources and supplies needed to hit the ground running on day one of the school year,” said CPS CEO Dr. Janice K. Jackson. “I know our families are motivated to kick off a new, successful school year, and we look forward to bringing them together in the coming weeks to celebrate the remarkable progress their schools have made.”

Thanks to partnerships and sponsors, each Back-to-School event will offer a wide variety of music, food, games and activities, including: performances from the Jesse White Tumblers, appearances by local radio personalities, access to immunizations and vaccinations for students, and information on Medicaid and other programs for families. CPS staff and volunteers will be available to help answer questions regarding the upcoming school year, and transportation will be available to and from events through shuttle services.

Each Back-to-School Bash will also feature a Chicago Early Learning Corner, where families will have the opportunity to enroll their children in available early childhood programs and learn more about Mayor Emanuel’s plan to provide full-day pre-kindergarten for all 4-year-olds in Chicago by the fall of 2021.
