CPS CEO Jackson to Hold Community Town Halls This Month

CHICAGO - CPS CEO Dr. Janice K. Jackson announced today that she will host a series of town hall discussions this month to speak with parents and community members about how the district and families can build on the record-setting academic progress that Chicago students are making. To engage families in every part of the Chicago, five meetings will be held at high schools throughout the city between May 15 and May 29.

“As a CPS parent, I know that parent involvement is essential to ensuring our schools are as strong as they can be, and I want every child to have a great school,” said CPS CEO Dr. Janice K. Jackson. “As we continue to expand our investments in college-prep work, vocational training and early childhood education, I look forward to listening to families throughout Chicago about the priorities that matter to them so we can continue the record growth students are making. We see a bright future for our students, one in which every student in every neighborhood reaches their full potential, and we hope these town halls will open new lines of communication to create stronger and more vibrant school communities.”

At each meeting, members of the district leadership team will join CEO Jackson as she discusses her three-year vision for the district and speaks with parents about how the district can partner with community members to advance our shared goals. In addition to the town hall discussion, representatives from various CPS departments will be on hand to speak one-on-one with parents about how their offices can best support them.

All meetings will occur from 6-8 p.m. on the following dates:

• Tuesday, May 15 at Whitney Young Magnet High School
• Thursday, May 17 at Brooks College Preparatory Academy
• Monday, May 21 at Amundsen High School
• Thursday, May 24 at Michele Clark High School
• Tuesday, May 29 at Back of the Yards College Prep

Chicago Public Schools serves 371,000 students in 646 schools. It is the nation’s third-largest school district.
