Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Celebrates 2023 Posse Scholars

CPS students make up majority of Class of 2023 Posse Scholars
CHICAGO — Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is proud to announce that 84 CPS students, from both District-managed and Charter high schools, will be awarded more than $18 million in full‐tuition leadership scholarships from The Posse Foundation.
The Posse Foundation, established in 1989, identifies, recruits and trains students from national local public high schools and sends them in multicultural teams — Posses — of 10 students to colleges and universities across the country. Award recipients have collectively won close to $2 billion in full‐tuition merit scholarships from Posse partner schools.
Of the 101 Chicago-area students awarded scholarships, dubbed “Posse Scholars,” 84 attend CPS-managed or charter high schools while the remainder attend local private or suburban schools. Posse scholars earn scholarships based on student leadership abilities, work in team settings and a desire to succeed, among other criteria.
“Last school year, I challenged our juniors to surpass the amount of scholarships won by the Class of 2022 and it appears that this year’s graduating class is on track to meet that challenge,” said CPS CEO Pedro Martinez. “Congrats are in order for the more than 80 CPS District and charter students who’ve won the Posse Scholarship.”
Posse scholars will be recognized at the Posse Chicago Awards Ceremonies from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 18 and 19, at Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th St. on the University of Chicago campus. Students receiving scholarships from specific colleges and universities will be recognized on one of the two days, depending on the institution.
“Posse has been recruiting wonderful students from the Chicago Public School system for the past 22 years,” Posse Foundation President and Founder Deborah Bial said. “We are very proud to partner with CPS. Congratulations to the newest class of Chicago’s Posse Scholars and their families.”
