School Food Survey

2025

Make Your Mark on the Menu

The 2025 CPS School Food Survey is an opportunity for students and parents to share opinions about their school meal program and preferences about meal offerings. Results will help inform future school meal offerings. This year we’ll check in with students and parents about the changes we made to the menu resulting from last year's survey findings, ask about general satisfaction with the meal program, and gauge interest in two potential initiatives for SY25-26.

Survey Details

  • Your voice matters: Information collected from the survey will inform school food decisions for next school year and beyond.
  • Win a prize for your school: The elementary school and high school with the highest response rate will receive a special prize.
  • Who should participate: The survey is intended to be student-centered but may also be taken by the parents/guardians of CPS students. Only one survey should be submitted by or on behalf of each student in a household. All responses are anonymous.
  • Please note: The survey can only be completed if your school serves CPS meals. While all District-run schools serve CPS meals, charter and contract schools may opt out.

Tell Us What You Think

The survey should take about 5 to 10 minutes to complete and must be completed in one sitting. If you close your browser, your responses will not be saved.

School Menus At Your Fingertips
It's easier than ever to find your school’s daily breakfast and lunch menus with MealViewer. Students and parents can create profiles, view menus and nutrition info, and rate meals.
As times change and student preferences shift, we strive to keep our nutrition guidelines relevant. CPS meals offer balanced nutrition informed by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and evidenced based recommendations.

Seasonal, Local and Cultural Serves
CPS partners with local producers to bring fresh, healthy and local food to CPS schools. As the seasons allow, we incorporate food items grown within 350 miles of Illinois. When items are grown even closer to home, we get excited.

More Meals Made From Scratch
We’ve increased the quantity of scratch-prepared and minimally processed items on the menus across the district and we’re piloting scratch-prepared menus at several high schools.
