Ethics

The Chicago Board of Education has adopted a Code of Ethics to ensure that Board members, Local School Council members, employees, and Board contractors act in the highest ethical manner in order to preserve the public trust of residents and taxpayers. We encourage you to read the Board policy and supplemental resources provided in this section so that you understand each party’s responsibilities.

Ethics Training

To support voluntary compliance with the CPS Code of Ethics, the Ethics Advisor is available to provide training. If you wish to set up ethics training for officials, employees, or Board contractors, please contact the CPS Ethics Advisor at ethicsinquiries@cps.edu.

Code of Ethics Inquiry

Any Chicago Board of Education member, Local School Council member, employee, contractor, parent, or community member may contact the Ethics Advisor for advice or to report a potential Code of Ethics violation. Inquiries, requests for advice, and reports of possible Code violations may be reviewed by the Ethics Committee.

Board officials and all supervisors are required to report potential Code violations to the Ethics Advisor.

If you have an inquiry or report, the Ethics Advisor will collect information necessary to provide you with appropriate guidance. Investigation, meetings, conference calls, and further research may be required to ensure that advice is based on a proper application of our Code and the law. When submitting an inquiry or report of a potential violation, please leave ample time for an ethics review. You may request advice or report a possible code violation by sending an email to ethicsinquiries@cps.edu.
